Daily writing prompt
What’s the best advice you’d give to someone younger than you?

If I could sit down with my younger self or anyone standing at the threshold of youth and offer a piece of advice, it wouldn’t be a grand life lesson or a secret formula for success.

I’d simply say: give yourself direction, not pressure.

I’ve been through those years too. I know what it feels like when your heart flutters like a butterfly at every new possibility. When your eyes are full of dreams, your mind buzzing with energy, and the world feels both exciting and overwhelming at the same time.

Youth is a beautiful season. It’s a time when you want to try everything, be everywhere, and become someone extraordinary. And honestly, that’s not a bad thing. The enthusiasm, curiosity, and hope that come with those years are gifts that should never be taken for granted.

A group of four friends sitting on the grass in a sunlit forest, laughing and reading books. Colorful butterflies and greenery surround them, creating a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere.

But if there’s one thing I wish I had understood earlier, it’s that energy needs a channel.

You don’t have to know exactly where you’ll be ten years from now. Life rarely unfolds according to our carefully drawn plans. However, having a gentle sense of direction can make all the difference.

Ask yourself:

  • What truly matters to me?
  • What kind of life do I want to build?
  • Which dreams am I willing to work for consistently?
  • What values do I want to carry with me?

The answers may change over time, and that’s perfectly okay. But taking a moment to reflect on them helps you make choices with greater clarity.

Another lesson I’d share is to learn the difference between needs and wants.

We all want many things recognition, success, validation, the latest trends, instant gratification. But understanding what you genuinely need for your growth and well-being will help you make wiser decisions.

That doesn’t mean denying yourself joy or living a life of constant sacrifice. It simply means being mindful about where your time, energy, and attention go.

And most importantly, don’t burden yourself with endless analysis of the future.

You don’t need to have every step mapped out. You don’t need to know all the answers. Life is not an exam that requires a perfect plan before you begin.

Instead, keep a subtle anticipation of where you’d like to see yourself in a few years. Hold your dreams gently, nurture them patiently, and take small steps toward them every day.

You are allowed to make mistakes.
You are allowed to change your mind.
You are allowed to grow into someone different from who you thought you’d be.

The goal isn’t to predict the future perfectly.

The goal is to move forward with intention, curiosity, and courage.

Because one day, you’ll look back and realise that it wasn’t certainty that carried you through life, it was your willingness to keep learning, adapting, and believing in yourself.

And that’s more than enough.

What About You?

If you could go back in time and have a conversation with your younger self, what advice would you give?

Would you tell them to take more risks? Worry less? Love more deeply? Believe in themselves a little more?
